A 3.6 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale shook the Honduran Caribbean coast, reported the National Risk and Contingency Management Secretariat (COPECO).
The quake, with an approximate depth of three kilometers, was located 49 kilometers from Puerto Cortés (north) and 267 kilometers from Tegucigalpa (central). A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded last Friday in the same area, the source noted.

According to a preliminary report from COPECO’s Seismology Unit, the event on Wednesday occurred at 8:41 a.m. local time.
So far, authorities have reported no casualties or material damage and reiterated their call for the population to remain calm, stay informed through official channels, and follow established safety measures for earthquakes.

Although Honduras is not a highly seismic country, it does have geological faults that can cause damage, such as the Coco and Caribbean faults and the so-called Ring of Fire, a vast area that surrounds the Pacific Ocean and concentrates 90 percent of the world’s tectonic and volcanic activity.
